It’s still the middle of the skiing season, but our thoughts have turned to the summer ahead, and we have been making plans!
We attended a seminar on sailing in Finland, which included a presentation on sailing to Russia. It sounded like a bit of an adventure, and a chance to see the wonders of St Petersburg, so we couldn’t resist.
So for now, in theory, here is a summary of our summer afloat.
Leaving Augustenborg in Denmark in early May, with passages across to Bornholm and the Swedish coast.
Crossing to Gotland and to Ventspils in Latvia by the end of May.
650 NM
Exploring the Gulf of Riga before making our way north to Tallinn in Estonia.
From there, we cross to exit the EU on the island of Haapasaari in Finland, and make a non-stop passage to St Petersburg in Russia to tackle the bureaucracy there.
We plan to spend 4-5 days in St Petersburg, before making the return journey back to Haapasaari by the end of June.
650 NM
The balmy month of July will be spent in the Finnish Archipelago among the islands, ending just outside Stockholm in Sweden
500 NM
In August, we will make our way South, probably against the prevailing winds, around the Swedish coast and spend a few days in Copenhagen.
From there we will explore the Danish Islands on our way back to base in Augustenborg in early September.
600 NM
What adventures await us this year??
Wow you amazing pair of sailors, what an adventure indeed!
Sweet anticipations, keep well and safe and stay ‘on the piste’ to avoid any dodgy snow incidents twixt now and then,
All our love, Nick and Ruth x
How amazing! Russia! I am so jealous…

Hi you two. Sailing to St Peterburg, that sounds fantastic. Are you already in Melodrama ? Finally Tommy got an apointment to remove the rod in his leg, 11/5. Then we go to Holland and Altair. Wish you good sailing and will follow you here.
Hej, friends! We hope Tommy’s op goes very well and you are soon afloat. Have the most lovely summer and good speed in Altair towards Italy. We too will be following you. Hej då!
