Consequences

William thinks it’s dangerous when Karen isn’t busy, and he’s probably right.

The Dog

Last August, in Göteborg, I was bitten by a dog. It was on a lead with its owner, and I was walking by, on the pontoon, and it had a taste of my leg joint.

Apart from the scar in the shape of a set of gnashers, I twisted my knee, and tore the cartilage.

Down Time

In January, the knee wasn’t great to ski on, and I went back home, having arranged an operation to repair it, and spent the rest of the winter dolefully watching my friends skiing.

A Cunning Plan

Boredom set in. Before we knew it, the house in Derry was up for sale, and we were moving to a flat in St Andrews! On a quick trip to visit Mum and Dad, I found the perfect place, in a new development in the old historic town centre.

Through the arch, and turn right at the end of the street.

Removals

So it was that we tied up the boat for a week, flew back to Derry to pack up and shift our stuff, flew to St Andrews and moved in, then back to Nynashamn to carry on where we left off, exhausted.

Back on Board

We left in a heat wave. We returned to thunderstorms. But we were serenaded by an Irish band playing all the obvious tunes, in the local bar on the quay. It’s good to be back, with another six weeks of sailing south to return to our winter base.

  1. What a change of plans, leaving Derry. What about Fahan?
I am so green with envy with your trip.
    Still going to St Petersburg?

    1. Fahan is forever. We did go to St Petersburg, but by train. Too many scary stories from sailors along the way – it’s easy to sail to St Petes, but not always easy to leave!

  2. Noticed you were a bit quiet this week and guessed you might be in recovery! We have high winds, showers and moderate temperatures at the mo. Fortunately no flooding as elsewhere. Hope you get some more good sailing conditions soon. Rx

  3. Yes indeed, dangerous sometimes to leave a wife unattended! I came back from a working trip once to find the car I had left behind had a blown up engine (so that’s what it means when the oil light comes on, you have to do something)? and a rather snazzy new car on the drive! Ahh well, it was probably time for a change anyway….
