Ian and Mary left the ship at Ystad, where there is a good train connection to Copenhagen. It’s a pretty town, and we spent a second day catching up with boat cleaning, laundry, shopping, and generally chilling.
There was a mink scurrying between the rocks round the harbour, which seemed to live on an abandoned sinking boat, and we enjoyed watching it catching a fish as big as itself and dragging it off for lunch.
Then we set off west, hoping to get to Copenhagen in time to pick up our replacement crew member, Brendan. But we rather overdid our enjoyment of a great sailing day, by deciding to take a 20 mile detour rather than duck through a short canal at Skänor.
As a result, our chosen harbour was full by the time we arrived, and we had to carry on up the coast looking for another place to stop for the night. Of course it all turned out fine, with a deep red sunset and the bonus of berthing next to the largest chandlery in Denmark. Happy days. Not that we bought much, but it’s always great to browse!
For the rest of the week, we’ve enjoyed the heatwave, which has been combined with fabulous sailing winds, and occasional thunderstorms at night – perfect timing.
We anchored in a little bay outside Femø harbour just so we could cool off with a swim from the boat. On Agersø, we booked the sauna and alternated between swimming and steaming, followed by an evening barbecue by the boat. This is the life!
Happy to hear you are still enjoying good summer weather in the far north! Sounds lovely.
Just hope summer continues into September for you, with good sailing winds to make the most of the last week or two in the Baltic for 2019. Must say it looks wonderful and I specially envy you being able to swim off the boat when weather is hot. Rxoxo
