All during lock down, I would walk along the Lade Braes in St Andrews to visit Mum and Dad. At one local garden gate, a white board was set up as a poetry corner, and one day John Masefield’s famous poem Sea Fever was scribbled on the board. It captured the mood of lockdown perfectly.
And here we are, down at the sea again, still a bit incredulous that it’s been possible this year. Anders had launched the boat and put up the mast before we arrived, so we were able to sleep on board the first night.
The weather has been glorious, and perfect for fitting sails, and generally ticking off the pre-season maintenance list.
We also found time to share a few sun-downers and sailing tales with our neighbours on board Constance, Tom and Ros Cunliffe.
On Monday, we set sail through the Als Sund, on a glorious sailing day, in company with dozens of Danish and German yachts all making the most of the late summer opportunity.
We decided to explore Nybol Nol, a little enclosed bay through a lifting bridge at Egernsund, and spend a calm moonlight night on anchor. We truly are incredibly lucky.
Bon Voyage! Have a great time.
Great that you’ve been able to do this. Have a great trip.
Tell’s a good story, does Mr.Cunliffe … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWIfZVOEZ0A
Soooo happy you are able to sail together this summer, and that weather has been kind, at least to start with… hope it stays fine throughout August. Love that poem – and the photo Rx
