Leaving Marstal, we set off by yacht to explore the north of the island, first navigating a narrow shallow channel, creeping through very slowly.
Over the winter we’d invested in a spinnaker snuffer, in theory an easier way to hoist, and more importantly to retrieve a big spinnaker when short-handed. Today was the day to try it out!
To say that spaghetti was usually less tangled is no exaggeration, and we spent much of the morning unfankling an unholy mess that we’d somehow created between the spinnaker, the snuffer and Genoa halyards. It took the binoculars trained on the top of the mast to figure out what was going on. But we did learn how NOT to do it!
Exhausted, hot, and without successfully flying the spinnaker, we headed into a sandy bay at Revskrog and dropped the hook, and spent the rest of the day swimming and trying to stay cool in the heatwave.
