Wild Anchorages

Blog Sweden South

The forecast today was 24C and sunny!
We were determined now to attempt the challenge of navigating through the Archipelago, or Skargard, thousands of little islands and rocks (the locals call them stones) with sheltered anchorages and jetties everywhere, dotted with wooden houses and huts.

Surely we would now find a deserted idyll for an evening barbecue ashore.

In preparation, we motored in the morning mist to nearby Karlshamn, an industrial town with good provisions. Karen set off on a bike to find a supermarket, while William and Gary cleaned the boat and found a fabulous fish shop.

Later in the afternoon, complete with new portable barbecue, grilled meats, pickled herring and a course planned carefully through the rocks we ventured towards Tarno, which we had heard was a nice secluded bay.

There we saw a forest of masts, and every spot taken on the wooden jetty. The Ronneby cruising club had chosen the same spot!

They squeezed along and made way for us, and helped us with our first stern buoy mooring, and gave advice on hopping off the bow to the shore.

But once again the sea fog thwarted our plans to eat ashore and we opted to rig the cockpit canopy for shelter and to eat on board. The barbecue will wait for another day.
