Wanted – Selden PBB 60 snap-shackle

Blog Shackle

After an early start for a long day, we found a sheltered anchorage, tucked behind some rocks and islands, and spent a peaceful night, shared with two German boats tied to the shore.

In the morning ,we headed north, as we do not want to be far from our crew changeover port, Nynashamn, when the expected storm blows through later in the week.

The wind is just aft of the beam, and we are cruising along nicely at 7kts under main and genoa. It is perfect conditions for the Code 0 but we have broken the snap shackle for the furler. Despite having a comprehensive box of assorted shackles, none of them quite fit, even to jury rig something temporary. It has to be non-swivelling, so that it will turn the furler. A complete inventory of the other shackles on board has also failed to find something we could steal. So the magic sail must stay in its bag today.

To entertain ourselves, we turned on the radar, and to our delight, we found the stealth warship ahead. In fact, we could identify it on radar, so we think they must have the ability to broadcast a radar signal when not ‘going dark’.

So we tracked it as a MARPA target, and got familiar with this new-fangled kit we have never had before. There are so many fun toys on this boat!
