We have been having trouble with the wind sensor on Melodrama since she was first commissioned. Initially it was an intermittent problem, but it was changed under warranty in Kalmar a few weeks ago. Then about 10 days later the replacement ‘disappeared’ from our display almost with an audible bang.
Inspiration Marine have been terrific, and yet again arranged for another replacement, this time in Bullando.
Breidge planned a route to take us there the following day, about 15NM from our location on Fjardlang. There was only one obstacle. A bridge, right beside Bullando marina, charted at 18.8m high clearance below, and we with a mast 17.82m high, with aerials and wind instruments (albeit broken!) another 0.6m higher. We didn’t dare risk it.
Thankfully, there is another way in. A 15NM detour round the top end of Vindo island, and down through a beautiful sound, full of boats sailing, little red wooden Swedish houses and boat houses, pontoons and docks. It did look like an idyllic summer lifestyle.
Bullando marina itself was lovely. It had over 1500 yachts, yet had a small guest harbour in among the reeds. The chandlery and store was well stocked and there was a great restaurant, not to mention a hut making its own ice cream.
To top it all, the shower block up on the hill behind the marina had a beautiful sauna with a picture window overlooking the boats, and THAT bridge!
