Here we are, tied up securely in Stubbekjøbing harbour, as outside 38 knots squalls howl and torrential rain pours down at sudden unanticipated intervals.
The harbour is full, mainly German charter boats, and the sea outside is empty of boats but churning away in the rain, wind and spray.
Yesterday, one of the charter boats arrived with a massive crunch into the pontoon, using its bow for an emergency stop. Four big guys failed to halt it. I’d guess they’ve lost their insurance deposit ……A very good reason never to buy a second hand charter boat, methinks.
Today, only one boat left the harbour. Yes, the four alpha males. I’m imagining a groupthink on board where no-one was prepared to be the one to say ‘maybe we should stay in port’. As they pulled out, tangling a stern line on the post, lots of shouting, and on nearly every other boat heads popped up to watch. Then lots of agreement between us that they were probably rather stupid. And one lady told me that the charter company rules said that they should not sail in a force 6, let alone gusting a force 8 gale!
As soon as normal wind conditions resume, we’ll continue our passage towards Copenhagen, and a few days of sightseeing. Meanwhile, plenty of time for shore activity – shopping, washing, cleaning, blogging, and boat-watching.
Meanwhile, here are a few photos from the last few days
Lovely to hear from you, voyagers. Just in case you were thinking of contacting Sullivan and Marianne in Copenhagen, they are in fact with us in Fermanagh until 3rd September. but do bear it in mind to make contact with them when next you are in Copenhagen, given their proximity to the water at Virum and strong desire to see you any time that suits both parties.
