After the eventful week in Waxholm, and finally getting the boat back on the road, we set off towards the Åland Islands and Finland.
We had missed the rally, but we had friends to meet up with in Finland. It wouldn’t really be possible to explore the Gulf of Bothnia as we’d planned, but it didn’t really matter, it’s lovely everywhere.
We had two wonderful days sailing, an idyllic anchorage and a very pretty island pontoon visit at Arholma.
As many know, Karen’s mum was taken ill and we turned back to Waxholm so that Karen could fly to Scotland for a few days. Sadly, Mavis died after this short illness, aged 90 and having recently celebrated her birthday with her grandchildren. Not such a bad exit for a Derry woman who’d enjoyed a laugh and a party until her departure.
What fabulous scenery, plus cloudless skies.
