Next task was to rig the sails. Despite keeping copious notes, we seem to have to rediscover the process every year.
And it takes a full day of labour.
One tricky moment is when ten long but thin lines have to be attached individually to ten points along the boom cover.
“Whatever you do, don’t let any of them go” I advised Brendan, promptly demonstrating the problem, as the lines all sped quickly through the ring high up on the mast and a full bowl of rope spaghetti now lay on the cockpit in a heap.
There was nothing for it than to be hoisted up the mast to rethread it.
I commented that this would be the last time in my life that I’d be up the mast.
But at least by late Tuesday evening we were ready to set sail in the morning!
