Everyone we have met has said we must not miss Christianso Island, so we left Allinge with a good breeze to windward, probably half an hour behind our 9 Polish neighbours in their chartered 50 foot Bavaria. We were determined to get there ahead of them 🙂 Despite their extra size, we did have the advantage of new sails, a clean hull, and a very fast boat! Not to mention our undoubted skill. And of course we passed them half way over. Haha.

The island lived up to the hype. It is an old military base and prison, with little houses and beautifully tended gardens, and full of eider ducks with their chicks, calling ooooohh in a very suggestive tone. Utterly charming.

We moored alongside Juanona, a USA flagged boat from Maine, and had a lovely evening chatting to Max and Lynnie who had lived on board for the last ten years or so. They were on their way north towards Stockholm and they too were leaving their boat for a few weeks to fly home for a son’s wedding. We hope to meet up with them again in July to see each other’s wedding photos, over a few sundowners
