Two reefs and a storm sail

Blog Sweden South

With all Olaf’s talk of high winds and shipwrecks, we rigged the storm sail to try it out, and marked off our reefing positions on the halyards.

The sail wraps around a furled genoa in its sewn-in storage bag, and pulls out when it is hoisted on the spinnaker halyard. In 8-10 knots of wind, with two reefs and the storm sail, we made 5.8 knots to windward! Impressive.

It was a little harder to refold it back into its bag – something to do in the calm after the storm, or better still, back on land.

  1. Just had a great weekend in Gothenburg – so many boats there and around the islands. So beautiful. I took some photos which I’ll send you – looking forward to meeting up there later in the summer.

    1. Well done on your big run! Looking forward to having the Wind Singers on board in August

  2. That certainly is an impressive speed with so
Little washing on the line! Could do without the fiddly repacking though! Here in Maidstone we have fine weather, loads of puppy fun but no baby yet! Nick
