Plan D

Blog Shackle

We took the new shackle apart, and extracted its spring, pin and ring.

This fitted the old shackle. I’m amazed, because serendipity has not been a feature of this tale.

I attached the shackle to the furling drum, then carefully swaged wire through the pin, so it could not come undone and flip overboard. Not that I’m getting paranoid or anything…..

We took the sail to the bow, attached it to the anchor shaft using the new/old shackle, hoisted the sail, pulled the furling rope to unwrap the sail, and Hey Presto – one long lost Code 0 sail flying in the wind.

  1. What a beautiful sail! We’re so happy your perseverence and ingenuity paid off.
