From Sack to Ekholmen

Archipelago Blog

A beautiful red sunset in our anchorage on Sack, East of Stockholm, heralded a return to summer weather after a few days when it was a bit ‘Scottish West Coast’. (Of course Scotland and Ireland are basking in the best weather in 20 years).

In the morning we slipped very slowly through the narrow and shallow entrance, and sailed west towards the little island of Ekholmen.

This has been run by the Vikingarnas Sailing Club since 1929 and it was really charming. We were able to tie up at their pontoons and explore.

At the top of the hill was a little clubhouse and cafe with lots of old photographs of Folkboats racing.

Crew protection legislation had still to be introduced!

And as the sun went down, we cooked on a big barbecue set up on the rocks in a sheltered bay, chatting to local sailing families who had grown up coming to this island with their parents and now had their kids with them playing happily in the water and the woods.

A perfect day.
